Episode 94: Unlikely Leader To A Unique Leader

I can easily come up with 10 reasons why I am an unlikely leader. Join in as I take Mike Kabeya through this exercise I learned recently at a Mastermind to Millions conference in Phoenix, Arizona with Jay Fiset. The exercise is quite revealing. You can do the exercise. I adapted it for you. Download Podcast Episode

Through the Unlikely Leader To Unique Leader exercise, you can discover your uniqueness. I discover another dimension of Mike’s uniqueness as a leader and as a human being. The fear Mike discusses in his culture growing up is what many African immigrants need to overcome to become great leaders. This barrier could have stopped Mike but his curiosity about the spiritual world and religion helped him to release what no longer served him to become the unique leader he is today.

As usual, our mentoring conversation strings together and unearths colorful nuggets of information. Mike shares an example of how culture influences your approach to hierarchy in employment by describing an example from Malcolm Gladwell’s book titled Outlier.

I start today’s show acknowledging one of the many contributors to my podcast program. Dr. Chad Boger of Boger Dental in Plymouth, Minnesota. Thank you for your generous monetary donation.

On a final note: Self-mastery involves looking at your family system, identifying the shame we internalize in our culture, and striving to heal our deep wounds where we tend to lose our perspective. To master oneself I have found curiosity very helpful. A curiosity to discover what freedom feels like in my soul. Because of the Daring Greatly and Rising Strong process I went through completing Brené Brown’s coursework, I have deepened my sense of belonging and cultivate love more deliberately. Most of us aren’t taught how to cultivate love and belonging, especially if you were raised in a family devoid of empathy and compassion for one another. The skills I have learned are integrated into the curriculum and process I take leaders through when they join my one-year WeMentor Entrepreneurial Leadership and Mentoring LAB.

You become a unique leader by identifying and shaping
what made you an unlikely leader.
