Episode 203: How to Add Value to What You Offer

Marcy Nelson-Garrison knows what sells. She came to this knowledge through a bendy process of work experiences that we discuss. Like many entrepreneurs, Marcy’s path into business ownership was not necessarily deliberate. There were many circumstances and experiences and the acquiring of many skills and degrees that culminated into the discovery of a niche missing in the marketplace; transformational products for coaches, counselors, trainers, and facilitators. How she ventured into the world of entrepreneurship from a safe and secure home in Des Moines, Iowa is how our conversation begins. Trying to outpace technology development in the advertising arena led to embracing her fear and developing two online stores (selling over 250 coaching and training products) and an online transformation coaching practice. By the end of our conversation, Marcy will give you an exercise to claim your wisdom (and not hide behind others’ wisdom). Plus, you can download a free e-book she has written, Create Products: 4 Easy Ways to more Clients, Money & Freedom.

WeMentor Self-Leadership Activation Exercises

After listening, do the following three WeMentor Self-Leadership Exercises:

  1. Take this risk: Download Marcy Nelson-Garrison’s free e-book, Create Products: 4 Easy Ways to more Clients, Money & Freedom.
  2. Self-Compassion: Claim your wisdom. Try Marcy’s exercise. Start with a topic. Ask yourself two questions each day for a week. Write down your answers.
    • What do I know?
    • What do I believe about my chosen topic?
  3. Gratitude Challenge: Happy Thanksgiving! Being grateful while in a difficult conversation with someone isn’t easy. Find the little things to appreciate about the person who is struggling with respectful conversation and blurring boundaries. Engage your curiosity by challenging yourself to be creative in navigating those tricky conversations. Hold steady with your own boundaries. You are in charge of how you handle being triggered. Then, offer yourself some gratitude for being kind and respectful. Or, thank yourself for taking a creative risk to work through a sticky situation or conversation.
    • If you are the one triggering others, stop it. Identify and own your own feelings. Take time to figure out what is going on with you. Then, forgive yourself and focus on being kind and respectful, no matter what! Offer yourself some gratitude as you complete the challenge.

Podcast Guest Mentor

Marcy Nelson-Garrison, MA, LP, CPCC. As a product review writer for choice magazine, owner of the Coaching Toys Online Store , The Coaching Tools Company , and product mentor, Marcy has a keen sense for what sells and what doesn’t. Her past life in advertising and print production give her a solid base to guide you through the technical side of things and as a visual artist she will nurture your creative process. Marcy has been coaching for 18 years and has helped many coaches, counselors and consultants claim their wisdom and expertise and turn it into profitable products and programs.

Marcy grew her coaching practice and online coaching toys out of a love of creative tools and processes that help people grow. She believes in the power of creativity, expressive arts, play, humor, intuition and spirituality to enhance personal growth work. These approaches expand the range of the practitioner, enliven the work, provide new avenues for awareness in clients, create space for deep learning to take place, allow for authentic self-expression, and make work for both practitioner and client more fun and rewarding.

The Coaching Tools Company enthusiastically serves professionals in the personal growth industry specifically; coaches, counselors, facilitators and trainers who focus on personal and professional development. Marcy solved a dilemma in the marketplace; instead of professionals in personal growth having to hunt one website at a time for creative tools, she offers them all under one roof at her online Coaching Toys Store at coachingtoys.com. A place where you can find coaching products for healing, dreaming, and creating more possibilities that you can’t find anywhere else.

Whether products delight, generate creative thinking, inspiration, or deep reflection, you will find something that you can use for yourself. Products for your practice. Products for your own professional development. Or, products to give as gifts to treasured clients.
