As a leader, are you and your staff prepared to address the Coronavirus? Working together we can mitigate this infectious disease. Cathy Hockert, Minnesota’s Enterprise Continuity of Government Director, is here to give you trusted resources and guidance as you prepare for the unknown outcome of COVID-19. DOWNLOAD
This disease has never been seen before in humans, only animals. We know the virus is changing. Initially we were getting case reports out of China and those traveling in the areas of the COVID-19 outbreak. Now we are hearing about numbers like 100,000 people globally and how the disease is spreading in our U.S. communities. As of airing this episode, 1 case has been reported in MN.
Knowledge is power. Inaccurate information disempowers you from making appropriate decisions that provide helpful solutions. Facts help you understand the truth and in turn, strengthens your ability to make solid decisions that people can count on. We are focused on providing you with the facts and the truth about where we are right now and help you prepare for what’s to come.
You will learn:
- What is like nailing jelly on the wall?
- How to arm yourself with factual and credible information and resources. Learn how to stay up to date as this virus changes.
- How COVID-19 is changing, where it started, and what the acronym means.
- The definitions of endemic, epidemic, and pandemic. How are the terms used with COVID-19?
- What a nomenclature group is and how this group classifies the devising or choosing of names for things, in science and in other disciplines.
- We sort out what a reasonable and appropriate response to this virus can be and what is extreme.
- The range of how people respond emotionally through their behaviors. Determine what you need to work through privately before you lead others.
- What practices to put in place and how to eliminate fear. Sort out when will it get tough for you economically.
- About China’s approach and what will never happen here.
- How to develop a strong infrastructure to adapt and pivot with changing circumstances. An aspect of Continuity Planning; developing ways to continue your business operations.
- Strategies and Ideas: nonpharmaceutical approaches, social distancing techniques, cleaning practices, and ignoring the Sky is Falling approaches that stem from untrustworthy sources making money off ignorance and vulnerable humans.
- Hugs and handshakes are being replaced with fist bumps, elbow knocks, and air hugs to prevent infected droplets expressed through the skin and mouth from infecting you.
After listening, do the following three WeMentor Self-Leadership Activation Exercises:
- Take these two risks: Avoid social media posts and delete news outlets that exploit humans and expand fear instead of providing solutions and helpful information. Work through your emotions as you prepare to roll out a preparedness plan (use the resources below to help with planning).
- Apply Self-Compassion: Make a special effort when fear arises to breathe steadily. You will figure what will work in your organization.
- Welcome Appreciation: I appreciate Cathy’s openness and all the work she continues to do in addressing disasters and infectious diseases. Show your appreciation to others by planning and preparing ahead for COVID-19.
