Episode 234: Trahern’s Push For Peace

Now it is not a moment to divide and conquer. It is an opportunity for us to bridge the gap between the ‘us’ and ‘them’ language, mentality, and policies dividing us. Trahern Pollard noticed that roughly 85% of those protesting were Caucasians and 15% other races. Racism is a human issue. We discuss where Trahern Pollard was during the week George Floyd was murdered. His organization, We Push For Peace, was on the streets providing a human barricade between the protesters and the police. See Trahern in action.

I am talking with Trahern to acknowledge his leadership and understand the recent black-on-black spike in violence. He has practical ideas for curbing the violence, insights into police reform, and ways we can address the trauma inflicted upon our youth. DOWNLOAD

Trahern believes he has seen everything coming from the southside of Chicago and settling in the Twin Cities several decades ago. He sees even more with threats over social media amongst our youth. The violence carried out when these youth first meet on the street in the hopes of defending a woman’s honor. What?! It is odd, tragic, and an educational moment to address the needs of our youth.

He says, “this moment is bigger than what anyone could have imagined, and that is why we have the opportunity to make significant changes.” You will hear his thoughts about defunding the police and how he is getting others to join him with ‘boots on the ground’ kinds of efforts that really can make a difference with the right resources in the right places.

Trahern is accepting donations for providing meals and hiring youth to keep things peaceful and safe.

Conscious Attentive Leadership Mentoring

After listening, do the following three WeMentor C.A.L.M. Exercises:

  1. Take this risk: DONATE HERE Invite a local leader like Trahern Pollard for a physical distance walk. Discuss where you notice disparities in how others with different backgrounds are treated. Maybe your workplace is all one gender or all one type of race. Imagine a way to close that one gap this month. Right down your plan to close the disparity gap. Let go of any attachment and apply self-compassion.
  2. Apply Self-Compassion: Before we can calm our minds, we need to meet the bodies need to move. After the walk, sit to calm your mind for 12-minutes. Close your eyes, and seal your lips. Go inward and focus on your breath. Visualize a bright light coming in through the top of your head and shining its way through your throat, filling your heart, moving down to light up your internal organs. Allow the light to move out of your body through your tail bone. Imagine the air as you exhale moving out of your body and all around you. Fill your belly with an expansive inhale and exhale the air through your nose and out all around you. Keep coming back to your breath until you feel calm and re-energized. You are safe inside your body.
  3. Welcome Appreciation: “I am grateful for Trahern’s courage and dedication to give a helping hand as We Push For Peace in Minneapolis and St. Paul. I am grateful for the groups of men he organizes to keep our youth safe on the weekends. I am grateful for his efforts to prepare our impoverished youth for work and for giving them practical skills and resources to get them to their new place of employment. I am grateful for Trahern’s leadership and his organizing ability to bring local leaders together to address each crisis that arises. Thank you, Trahern, for rising to align your life purpose with your heart’s passion.”

“I believe finally, that education must be conceived as a continuing reconstruction of experience; that the process and the goal of education are one and the same thing.” – John Dewey

Trahern Pollard. Trahern started his nonprofit organization, We Push for Peace in 2010, to be a resource and advocate to those in the inner city.  On a broader scale, their mission is in the name of the organization, “We Push for Peace.”  When there is an injustice in our community that is seen, we need to be able to step up, lead the way, and help facilitate the change that is needed.

On May 25, 2020, a man by the name of George Floyd, died, in the hands of the Minneapolis police department. We, as a community, we as human beings, cannot un-see the horrific images.  However, what we can do is peacefully, go after justice, accountability, and the proper change that is needed so that these events stop happening.

Along with continuously helping families that have been affected by COVID-19, we focus our efforts on getting the justice our community needs at this critical time.  Trahern is holding rallies; engaging the public to hear all voices; working with leaders in our community, organizing the community to provide safety for our youth on weekends. Justice and accountability must prevail.

If you would like to support, be a part of this cause, we are a 501c3 functioning nonprofit that is continuously thriving to make a difference in all areas of the community, and anything donated would be much appreciated.  Upon your donation, you will receive a tax receipt for your records. Video

Donate Here. Money raised will further efforts to help those in poverty get a helping hand up in the Twin Cities.
