Recently, I completed a four session WeMeditate with Nancy LAB. Along with an astounding number of participants, I received helpful feedback that spurred today’s conversation: 5 Enemies of Meditation and How to Overcome them. You can do the four 20-minute LAB meditations. They are in the episode resource section.
When we sit to meditate, according to HeadSpace and other meditation resources, we are looking after ourselves in ways that might not at first seem obvious. Over time, not only do you notice the health, physical, and emotional benefits, which I discuss, but others do too. DOWNLOAD
You might have started Meditation at the nudge of someone else to manage stress, reduce anxiety, and cultivate creativity and peace of mind. As you deepen your practice, you will notice some mental and physical gremlins cropping up to throw you off your focus. I have experienced all five of the enemies, mostly restlessness. I will be curious to know which enemies you most identify with as you progress in your practice and what you are doing to overcome the gremlins to stay present. My favorite solution is to allow the distraction; it will pass, and meditate anyway. Breathe with determination and keep going.
Join me in a 10-minute meditation at the end of this episode. In the four WeMeditate with Nancy LAB sessions, notice how each one is different. I like to expand and stretch the mind differently. You build muscle memory through repetition and can learn to relax on demand so maintain (or get started) with a regular meditation practice!
Rest in Power, Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away over the weekend. She was a great mentor, inspiring person, known as the ‘great equalizer’ as a Supreme Court Justice, and the greatest American to advance equality under the law. Today’s Meditation is dedicated to her.

Conscious Attentive Leadership Mentoring
After listening, do the following three WeMentor C.A.L.M. Exercises:
- Take this risk: Do the 10-minute Meditation with me at the end of today’s podcast conversation. Then, decide to do the four WeMeditate with Nancy LABs in the resource section of this episode by working a LAB into your schedule four days this week.
- Apply Self-Compassion: Be with yourself for a few minutes longer after you meditate. Observe how your feelings change before, during, and after each Meditation.
- Welcome Appreciation: Say to yourself, “I am grateful to have remedies to sloth energy, restlessness, craving, aversion, and doubt (a form of self-sabotage). I am grateful I took the time to care for myself. I am becoming stronger in my self-understanding. I am enhancing my well-being.”
“I believe finally, that education must be conceived as a continuing reconstruction of experience; that the process and the goal of education are one and the same thing.” – John Dewey
