Episode 325: To Integrate or Not Integrate Our Life Experiences

Episode Notes

“Not all storms come to disrupt your life;

some come to clear your path.”  — Alex Hales

To integrate or not integrate our life experiences is the question. Decide today and every day to consciously heal your insecurities in the present moment or live a persistent life out of harmony and ease remaining insecure. Whatever your decision, make it a conscious one. Be in charge of that decision.

I define what an integrated life is and what it isn’t and what that means. I imagine if you are listening to my podcast, you are an integrator. Dr. Daniel J. Siegel says integration feels like love which he defines as truly caring for an () other and their well-being while caring for yourself and your own well-being.

If you feel out of harmony or ill at ease right now, take a moment to check in with yourself and identify how you feel. Determine what the next best step is and take that step. Then listen in with an open heart and mind and learn more about integrating your life’s experiences. Imagine being the same person with whomever you talk to without walls.

Join me at the end for a 12-minute Turn Inward mind activity to observe how your thoughts, feelings, narratives, and images are constantly changing. The secret to transformation is to awaken the mind so that we can regulate these patterns intentionally, shift how the brain fires, and alter the ways we approach communication within our relationships.

Becoming integrated does not mean losing your tendencies, research shows; instead, it means coming to appreciate them as part of us. Examine your life. The benefit is loving all the parts of who you are, warts and all. DOWNLOAD

Conscious Attentive Leadership Mentoring

After listening, do these three C.A.L.M. Activities:

  1. Take this risk or do this adventurous task: Complete the 12-minute meditation at the end of my podcast conversation with you and integrate today’s experiences.
  1. Apply Self-Compassion: I had one of those sticky emotions of feeling out of sorts (companions of stress and pressure) for most of the day. I tried a Deepak Chopra exercise that I can share with you because it helped me let go of my sticky emotion. Sit quietly and begin focusing on your breath. Imagine light in your heart filled with the sticky feeling. Let it expand from your heart and lungs to your neck, head, and down the lower half of your body. Eventually, you see the light and sticky feeling released through your feet. I did this twice. The feelings of being out of sorts left my body, mind, and spirit. Try it out for yourself.
  1. Welcome Appreciation: “I appreciate you. Thanks for tuning in and making the decision to integrate your life experiences. Everyone in your life will benefit. I appreciate what it takes for me to produce podcast conversations every week. I appreciate Mike Kabeya’s steady editing ear and getting me the MP3 files of our taped conversations to me every week, which sometimes takes extraordinary effort with all of his other commitments. He is someone I can depend on. I appreciate the love and joy I bring to others and that they bring into my life. I appreciate bringing Dual Innovation Mentoring to the lives of small business owners as they redefine how they lead while redefining their business models. I cherish all the effort integrators put into making our world a better place by integrating their life experiences and their commitment to being lifelong learners.”

Your Turn. Start with, “I appreciate what I heard from today’s Guest Mentor, Nancy Meyer. I appreciate this week’s adventurous task because….”

 “Most of the problems in our lives and world are caused by relational dysfunction, a dysfunction in how we relate: as social groups, as individuals, to animals and the environment, and even to ourselves. Therefore, developing relational literacy—the understanding of and ability to practice healthy ways of relating—is essential for personal, social, and ecological transformation.” —Melanie Joy, psychologist, author, theorist, educator
