Terry was born in Beijing, China. At age 25, an unexpected event occurred that influenced his decision on June 4, 1989 (known as the Tiananmen Square Incident) to leave China and become a United States citizen. His tenacious spirit, brilliance, and drive to create a better life helped him overcome punitive governmental constraints and land at Duke University initially as a medical student where he became enthralled with neuroscience. At Vanderbilt University, he became a Neuroscientist. His path to where he is today was a marriage between his two loves: neuroscience and marketing. He is on a mission to expand the abilities of consumers to critically think about how they make decisions so they can be informed consumers.
The seeds to Terry’s passion and lifework in Neuromarketing were planted in his upbringing in China and the love of his parents, especially the loving kindness of his mother and brother. Growing up in a closed society where propaganda replaced critical thinking and where the government controlled every area of your life, affects brain development and the ability to forge deep family connections and trusting relationships. The suffering is palpable when Terry describes the facts about his life.
What is inspiring is his liberated heart and gracious spirit that have flourished in this democracy; so has his ability to help others. Terry built one of the first two local Search Engine Optimization websites in 2004, generating great results. This work engaged his entrepreneurial spirit and desire to help others become more profitable.

After listening, do the following:
- Evaluate your website. What message are you sending? Use the criteria we talked about to create a highly predictable pattern of how consumers can navigate through your business website. This is based on how the brain recognizes patterns.
- Ask yourself, is my site clients/customers/end users focused or personal preference focused?
- Think about how clients make decisions to work with you. What is their process? Write down the questions they ask.
- Next, from the customer-questions you outlined above, write down ways you can guide and direct consumers through a decision-making process that is intuitive. Where you answer 10-15 most asked questions. You can flush out the answers. Post them on your website once edited.
