Episode 142: Intrapreneur to Entrepreneur: Peter Beaumont’s Journey, Part III

Enjoy a third scrumptious conversation with Peter Beaumont of ConnXN Consulting. In this conversation we leave the Middle East and venture with Peter to his life and work in Germany (for 10 years). His travels to Austria, Hungary, Budapest, Brazil, and settling in to his current life in the United States are also territory we cover. There are many nuggets about his journey for you to mull over this week.

Peter’s first home in the United States with his second wife, Shelly and their two children (Karly and Pierce), was Chicago. In 2008, Peter was offered an opportunity to work at the McDonald’s Headquarters. He also launched ConnXN Consulting firm with two clients. Download

In 2013, he and his family make a go of it in what Peter refers to as the igloo state, Minnesota, where Shelly grew up. You will hear, he is acclimating quite well!

We start out discussing our first two podcast conversations where Peter shares the insights from when we ventured ‘off script.’ He discovered a thread from our conversations that tie together how he builds relationships that you could benefit from learning. How does he bring a lightness into each relationship? Who taught him this?

Entrepreneurs are commonly known for their ability to organize all kinds of resources to launch and build a business. They can do this over and over again. What do they do, if their venture is struggling? They take charge and do whatever is possible to turn it around. They keep hunting for answers and other resources. If they can’t turn it around after exhausting all options, they let it go, and start something new, or as a last-ditch effort, work for someone else.

Peter has a history of seizing opportunities offered to him by friendships developed throughout his career. He relays two key values and a way of keeping in touch with friends he has collected along his life journey so far. Find out those key values and learn how his unacademic prowess was reinforced and addressed. You will hear how he takes the sting out of intense conversations.

You will also learn why Peter prefers working with entrepreneurs running $2M to $60M ventures instead of holding executive positions in larger ventures. He uses an analogy from coaching soccer to get his point across.

We also discuss writing challenges like how to express humor, so it comes across as actually funny and genuine. Listen in to our authentic conversation and gain a few more insights into the intrapreneur who becomes an entrepreneur.

Mentoring Tips

After listening to our conversation:

Ask yourself, how can I connect people together and build upon those relationships over time? How can I treat people fairly and live with a high moral compass?

  • What states of mind are you in when you infuse harm into your personal and business relationships? How long does it take for you to shift from a destructive mindset or a chemically induced mindset to curiosity and hope?
  • When under cash flow pressure, what are your options to not letting the pressure and stress be counterproductive?
  • Make a list of your unique abilities. How can you play to your strengths?
