Episode 147: Phil’s Unique Insights For Every Business Owner

In Chetek, Wisconsin we learn from Philip Mattison, president and founder of CORE Products International, Inc., unique insights into business ownership. I love the creativity he applies to each situation. He is constantly on the move to connect with people and do great things. He makes sure employees are connected with each other and their work. DOWNLOAD

In this conversation we focus on maximizing relationships through business groups and with sophisticated bankers. He describes how he takes a 5-year plan and breaks it down to a one-year scorecard and where he learned this methodology. Manufacturing companies have a lot of inventory to turn out and turn over. We talk about ratios and inventory and how to best utilize a banker’s expertise.

Referrals and real in-person relationships have been an integral part of how Phil does business. His CPA led him to a business banker. What kind of relationship could you have with your banker?

  • Discover how you can save money by working with a sophisticated banker.
  • Learn key questions to ask bankers. Banks produce your data, why not have a year-end review and get a banker’s perspective on your industry and your numbers?
  • We get into debt to equity ratios, inventory sales, how quickly inventory is turned over and how banks assess the amount you qualify for in getting a loan.
  • How big is Phil’s leadership team? Who joins him on financial meetings?

About Philip Mattison. Core Products International, Inc. was founded in 1988 by Phil with the idea that therapeutic products should be comfortable to wear and easy to use (combining therapy and comfort). They are proud to manufacture products with quality and care in the United States and Canada.

It all started when Core’s Founder and President, Phil Mattison, had a sore neck. Upon learning that his discomfort stemmed from an improper sleeping position, Phil worked with his Chiropractor to develop a new kind of spinal support pillow. Since the successful launch of their first pillow product in 1988, Core has developed or acquired several other pillows that are widely recognized as “best in class” for cervical support and comfort. These top selling products include their Tri-Core® and Therapeutica® sleeping pillows.

Over the years Core has expanded well beyond pillows to offer innovative orthopedic supports and braces, hot and cold therapy products, OTC electrotherapy units, massage products, and more. These products are engineered and designed to exceed the needs of people who are suffering from pain and discomfort. In fact, their purpose and passion are to “make YOUR life more comfortable.”

At Core they also take pride in making products easy to market and sell. They offer distributors and retailers a full suite of customizable sales tools including retail ready packaging, point of purchase display aids, customized literature, electronic marketing tools, educational videos and much more.
