Episode 197: Secrets From Golf Whisperer and Business Coach, Dan DeMuth

What does it take to have fun while you perform? I found out when I visited Dan DeMuth of Performance In Motion at his backyard putting green. I hit the designated target by shifting my focus. Did I use the typical grip, stance, and swing approach? No, I threw a bunch of colored duct-taped golf clubs. Target, focus, relax, release.

One of the secrets to reaching success with over 53,000 clients, whether the client is an inner-city student on a school team, or a CEO and team of executives, is Dan DeMuth’s kinetic activity-based learning process with golf as the medium. The experiential approach, works. Clients master their true authentic game on and off the course.

Engaging motion and energetic forces within your mind and outside your body equals a better performance. A performance that is dynamic and lively, kind of like our podcast conversation. Don’t miss out on other secrets Dan has learned being a Golf Whisperer and business coach! DOWNLOAD

His 2014 book, Secrets Of The Golf Whisperer offers a fresh outlook to achieving your goals with powerful insights for creative and breakthrough thinking and actions. Whether you are looking to improve your business performance, enhance your personal life, or simply upgrade your golf and/or other sports games, many of the same principles overlap when it comes to operating at peak performance.

WeMentor Self-Leadership Activation Exercises

After listening, do the following WeMentor Self-Leadership Exercises:

  1. Self-Compassion: I had a frightening experience with my car over the weekend. The steering locked up when I was in the middle of the road after backing out of the driveway. I drove over the curb and back into the driveway. I decided to feel my feelings before calling Feist Automotive to get help. This allowed me to have a calmer conversation with the mechanic. I was even able to laugh at the situation when I talked with him. The Timing Belt and Alternator need to be fixed. I later had more feelings. This is a great self-compassion exercise I want to pass along for you to try out this week. Identify your feelings when you have an emotionally loaded experience before talking to anyone and doing the next step.
  • Gratitude: Think about an issue where you are stuck. Identify what you are grateful for about this situation. Regarding my car, I am grateful I could get my car to the gas station half-mile from my home. I am grateful no one was hurt. I am grateful the mechanic was so kind and optimistic in his ability to fix the car. I am glad Matthew and I can talk through the range of our emotions and get to a workable solution.
  • Take a risk: Do this Possibility exercise I have adapted from Dan’s book, Secrets Of The Golf Whisperer (pp. 54-55). Think about an issue where you feel stuck. Write down five different ways in which the situation could be improved. If none of your list truly can improve your situation, allow your mind to keep going. Add more and more possibilities until a desired solution appears in your mind. Implement the solution.

Dan DeMuth. Dan DeMuth has over three decades of coaching experience. He played competitive golf in high school and college. He attended Farris State University for professional golf management and worked at several prestigious clubs throughout the country.

Through his golf coaching experience, Dan noticed that average golfers tend to focus on the wrong things. They work hard on the grip, stance and swing, but have no target, strategy, vision, or ability to let go of the bad shots they take. But if a golfer played with the possibilities in mind, they could become a champion. Dan found that a golfer’s ability to generate sustained focus was what most frequently led them to success.

Dan went from instruction to coaching. His clients had breakthrough experiences both on and off the course. The benefits led to lower scores with less physical effort in their golf game. Dan wasn’t only helping his clients with how well they golfed, he was improving their approach to business and their personal goals as well.

Soon Dan was coaching more than just athletes. Companies and business professionals around the country began to benefit from Dan DeMuth’s bold training for a management of mindset. Business executives improved their like skills through golf with Dan’s Power of Focus and Discovery vision workshops.

Today Dan DeMuth provides keynote speaking and extensive coaching in team building, sales coaching, sports coaching, and overall leadership. His most prominent topics and core principles are: Awareness of Current Situation, The Power Of Focus, and Overcoming Interference.

Through leadership and coaching, Dan DeMuth and Performance In Motion continues to sculpt individualized, realistic means to personal goals and vision while improving quality of life in peak performance.
