Episode 198: How Over 52,902 People Changed Their Lives with Dan DeMuth as Their Coach

REAL results, from a coach who is authentic, are hard to find. Usually, we snub old-fashioned tried and true methods of coaching and go with the flashy bells and whistles type of coaching where we collapse into the temptation of quick fix promises. Not unlike the fairy tale story of the Velveteen Rabbit. A little boy snubs his stuffed Velveteen Rabbit for the new and shiny toys. By accident, the boy is given the Velveteen Rabbit for comfort when he is ill. The Velveteen Rabbit is deeply loved and becomes real over time. The Velveteen Rabbit never forgets the little boy.

Dan DeMuth of Performance In Motion is one of those real coaches you will always remember. He modernizes his performance coaching practice by bringing forward the wisdom in the tried and true methods that have proven results.

What I mean is Dan has tested five of his many experiential learning exercises with over 53,000 people over time. Only 98 people have done better by keeping their own putting method after completing his five exercises. Or, put another way, 52,902 people (from High Schoolers to CEOs) have changed their perspective on their golf game and how they are leading their lives by starting with five exercises. Dan knows what works to increase one’s authentic performance in life. Hear him discuss the details about the power of focus, mindset, feeling joy, and coachability. What might lead to someone not being able to be coached?

Dan’s holistic, healthy, and kinetic approach ripples across all areas of one’s life. “Most people don’t understand why they get mad,” says Dan. The Golf Whisperer knows his methods work because he practices all the techniques and exercises on himself, first.

Listen in for these other gems from Dan DeMuth; whom I call The Golf Whisperer who exemplifies The Velveteen Rabbit story by helping people become authentic performers, on and off the putting green:

  • How he picked the property to build his home. I am sure his criteria was different than yours and most others.
  • How he works with clients and what he learns from them.
  • Roadblocks coaches need to overcome.
  • Self-Branding and how we can box ourselves in psychologically.
  • How he sets up an environment for success with all types of clients: other coaches and teams, business owners and their executive staff, athletes, professional golfers, etc.
  • Levels of engagement and ruling out confusion.
  • Ways he keeps expanding his emotional bandwidth and challenging himself. Practicing what he preaches.
  • What can put your mind into the realm of differing levels of possibilities.
  • His approach in overcoming operational issues like bookkeeping, technology, and his views about money and committed clients.
  • His vision for 2020 and his path forward.

Dan takes Mike Kabeya through his throwing and putting exercises. Target, focus, relax, release. Enjoy the photos I took, and Mike touched up.

WeMentor Self-Leadership Activation Exercises

After listening, do the following three WeMentor Self-Leadership Exercises:

  1. Take a risk: Dan’s view of risk; putting your feet on the floor in the morning. He starts his day with that perspective. He begins taking risks to grow personally and professionally through awareness. Dan says, “The danger in coaching is the coach losing track of where they are at in their own process. Taking reflective time to find clarity needs to be worked into your experiential learning process.” Increase self-trust through this awareness exercise: deliberately build reflective time and clarity into your life’s work from this point forward.
  • Self-Compassion: Whenever you take an emotional risk like trying to understand when you get angry or discovering a moment when you are triggered into a state of possible disconnect, acknowledge what you discovered by saying it out loud three times.
    • “I am awesome! I was able to stay present and engaged in a tough conversation, yeh!
    • I am awesome! I was able to stay present and engaged in a tough conversation, yeh!
    • I am awesome! I was able to stay present and engaged in a tough conversation, yeh!”
  • Gratitude: Stay present with being ‘awesome’ and expand that state of being. Like stating out loud, “I am awesome and feel internally strong when I stay present, no matter what! “I am awesome and feel internally strong when I stay present, no matter what! “I am awesome and feel internally strong when I stay present, no matter what!” Say your three gratitude statements again before sleeping.

Dan DeMuth. Dan DeMuth has over three decades of coaching experience. He played competitive golf in high school and college. He attended Farris State University for professional golf management and worked at several prestigious clubs throughout the country.

Through his golf coaching experience, Dan noticed that average golfers tend to focus on the wrong things. They work hard on the grip, stance and swing, but have no target, strategy, vision, or ability to let go of the bad shots they take. But if a golfer played with the possibilities in mind, they could become a champion. Dan found that a golfer’s ability to generate sustained focus was what most frequently led them to success.

Dan went from instruction to coaching. His clients had breakthrough experiences both on and off the course. The benefits led to lower scores with less physical effort in their golf game. Dan wasn’t only helping his clients with how well they golfed, he was improving their approach to business and their personal goals as well.

Soon Dan was coaching more than just athletes. Companies and business professionals around the country began to benefit from Dan DeMuth’s bold training for a management of mindset. Business executives improved their like skills through golf with Dan’s Power of Focus and Discovery vision workshops.

Today Dan DeMuth provides keynote speaking and extensive coaching in team building, sales coaching, sports coaching, and overall leadership. His most prominent topics and core principles are: Awareness of Current Situation, The Power Of Focus, and Overcoming Interference.

Through leadership and coaching, Dan DeMuth and Performance In Motion continues to sculpt individualized, realistic means to personal goals and vision while improving quality of life in peak performance. Performance in Motion

His 2014 book, Secrets Of The Golf Whisperer offers a fresh outlook to achieving your goals with powerful insights for creative and breakthrough thinking and actions. Whether you are looking to improve your business performance, enhance your personal life, or simply upgrade your golf and/or other sports games, many of the same principles overlap when it comes to operating at peak performance.
