Episode 211   Bridge the Digital and In-Person Gap

Mike Marcellus is this week’s podcast guest. He is the founder of Tipclub, the 1st Strategic Networking company that is bridging the digital and in-person gap. Mike is on the move to get business-to-business people more bang for their networking bucks! DOWNLOAD

Do you need help? Are you willing to help others or just sell to them? Without a strategic networking plan you could be wasting your time trying to pick-up quick leads at a bunch of networking events instead of examining your network goals more closely.

How are you developing your trustworthiness when you meet a new acquaintance? Have you thought about what you can do to show you are trustworthy? As a facilitator of the Minneapolis Tipclub group, the first thing I do to build trust is to help each person get comfortable. I quickly connect them with other members and work to bring value to each attendee. I allow the group to get to know me with a little bit of information at a time, each of the three rounds. How can you become knowable? Setting an intention before you enter a networking meeting has been the best way I have found to connect and release any fear or uncomfortableness.

One of the ways Mike is building in accountability is through the Tipclub Challenge APP. Each person sets a 30-day challenge. He describes the criteria needed to put together a 30-day challenge. Of course it is critical that you hold yourself accountable by showing up with a learning and open attitude to start and grow new relationships. Listen to Mike and empower yourself to build a network that can evolve with you over a lifetime.

WeMentor Self-Leadership Activation Exercises

After listening, do the following three WeMentor Self-Leadership Exercises:

  1. Fulfill this 30-Day Challenge: Tryout a February Tipclub monthly meeting in your area. The Twin Cities Tipclub meeting that I am facilitating is February 18 from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Register for all meeting locations HERE!
    • Implement the three networking strategies Mike recommends when you attend: be knowable and likeable by showing up with an attitude to help others while you help yourself (adjust your expectations), implement your strategic networking plan (I can help you develop one), and hold yourself accountable in being fully present during the meeting.
    • Help Mike, if you can, with his 30-Day Challenge to meet experts in APP marketing. If you have a contact for him, download the Tipclub Challenge APP and search for his name in the Rochester, New York area.
  2. Self-Compassion Exercise: After you register to attend a February Tipclub meeting, stand up and do a little dance. Acknowledge how you are self-leading to build a long-term network of connections you know over time.
  3. Appreciation Risk: Extend last week’s gratitude challenge through this month. Identify  something you appreciate about each person you meet at a networking event. Let each person know what you appreciate about them.
    • Notice your energy level after you stretched yourself. Do you feel energized to go out and conquer the world? Or, do you notice a depleted level of energy after taking such a big risk? Or maybe you notice a slight elevation in energy. Whatever the case, find joy in taking the risk.

Mike Marcellus: Tipclub was founded in 1999 by Mike Marcellus to provide a more flexible and productive way to business network. Unsatisfied with some of the rigid rules of other “tip clubs” or networking groups, Mike launched his organization so businesspeople could focus on helping each other and not be bogged down by strict requirements or quotas. Today, Tipclub manages networking meetings nationwide and offers multiple digital tools for strategic networking.

Tipclub is a business-focused, strategic networking organization that empowers people to help each other connect and grow professional relationships.

Referral and word of mouth continue to be some of the most powerful business divers available, but even in today’s multi-platform world, finding clients, projects and alliances is still a challenge. Tipclub bridges the gap between digital and personal by providing strategic networking tools and support to help professionals and businesses succeed.

The Tipclub mission is to provide the ultimate business networking experience that empowers businesspeople to help others they know, like, and trust.
