Episode 212   A New Tool to Assert Self-Leadership, 1 of 3

Mike Kabeya joins me as I rollout the first of two new self-leadership assessment tools. The first assessment is designed to give a snapshot picture of where you are at in this moment in time. Once you get a picture of your well-being, you can easily figure out where to assert self-leadership. Join us as we discuss the 8-Aspects of the WeMentor Self-Leadership Well-Being Spectrum and Mike’s surprising results. You can take the assessment, too! DOWNLOAD

The second assessment, WeMentor Work Culture: Integration Wheel, is for key team members to assess 8-Aspects of an integrated and interconnected, healthy work culture. More details are coming in a few months.

We begin today’s conversation with some definitions outlined below. We then discuss one of Mike’s favorite topics, Aspect 4: Spiritual/Humanistic Evolution. How are you taking charge of your spiritual development as a human being? What activities or traditions do you have in place to become a well-adjusted, joyful, peaceful, and spiritually evolving human being? Do you have activities that nourish and enrich your spirit and connect you to the outside world? Mike has some insights worth knowing. I end with an amazing quote from Brené Brown about our shared humanity.

Lifework refers to all activities throughout your lifetime, which enhance your own life and the lives of others. The term lifework is used rather than career, because it is broader and more holistic. Jobs or careers, or business ventures can end, but the need to continue to grow, develop, and express yourself continues. Lifework better represents the collective experiences we have over a lifetime that make us who we are.

Self-Leadership is self-influence. It is deliberately deciding to take charge of your well-being and human development. Self-Leadership is facilitated through the use of behavioral and cognitive strategies that strengthen and integrate the connections between your mind, brain, and relationships to:

  1. Solve Life Riddles;
  2. Have a Sense of Play and Adventure;
  3. Experience An Equal Fascination: Before, During, and After Breakthrough Moments;
  4. Role Model Emotional Well-Being;
  5. Direct the mind, through experience, to a world that expands beyond the material;
  6. Engage in daily practices and disciplines in the Well-Being Spectrum;
  7. Awaken deeper aspects of oneself to feel more deeply to think, act, and lead more consciously; and
  8. Reinvent (or evolve) yourself as you redesign your business, dual innovation. A way to take charge of who you next become!

What is Self-Leadership Mastery?

Self-Leadership Mastery includes the ability to self-regulate and promote self-reliance using the WeMentor Self-Leadership Well-Being Spectrum to advance 8 different aspects of well-being or being well, joyful, and healthy. Self-leadership is intentional attention with awareness and focus to assert mastery of the 8-aspects of well-being. Infuse joy, meaning, purpose, and loving kindness into your life.

In a work culture, Self-Leadership Mastery is a process that can transform the excitement, risk, disconnect, and psychological danger in a dysfunctional climate to build a culture of integration and interconnectedness. This means creating a work culture that has balance, proportion, and moderation in the midst of climate setting innovation practices and disciplined efforts to achieve goals beyond oneself. It is designing a work culture that has snuffed out shame, scarcity, fear, anxiety, and uncertainty. There are 8 different aspects to consider in creating an integrated and interconnected, healthy work environment shown in the WeMentor Work Culture: Integration Wheel. We’ll discuss this tool in an upcoming podcast conversation.

PURPOSE: The purpose of self-leadership mastery is to keep growing as a human being throughout your entire life while advancing our society through meaningful work and life purpose. The thinking is to use opportunities of growth and transition to develop your next level of leadership influence.

How WeMentor Self-Leadership Mastery is through implementing self-leadership strategic peer mentoring LABs (one-on-one and in small groups). Incremental steps and leaps forward with setbacks in between, with caring and well-trained mentors, improve decision-making and advance leadership skill development to deepen awareness, focus, and action in core business operations.

WeMentor to broaden business knowledge, expand global perspectives, and assert self-leadership mastery so you can make a greater more expansive difference in the world. As you deepen your understanding of self-leadership, you will increase your ability to identify problems and manage your stress more effectively. You will craft effective and creative solutions by overcoming personal barriers and innovation constraints that might otherwise derail you or the projects you are implementing. You will become nimble in adapting and leading the way as our world continues to change and evolve. Instead of being led by these turbulent times, you will become resilient and take charge of how you influence others during critical moments and stretches of time. Your mind, brain, and relationships depend on your ability to keep learning and engaging fully in life!

WeMentor Self-Leadership Activation Exercises

Do the following three WeMentor Self-Leadership Exercises:

  1. Take this risk: Become aware of the light and dark sides of yourself. Soften your dark side by naming your hurt: betrayal, disappointment, heartbreak, disillusionment, human fragility, etc. Validating hurt releases the hurt and allows space in your mind to think differently. Ideas for healing come once you release repetitively negative thinking. These ideas could include doing a forgiveness exercise or crying, or journaling, or getting the hurt out of your body. It could be a physical release through exercise or a massage. Healing wounds promotes the development of ethical and moral practices in life and raises your intrinsic value. Now, apply self-compassion.
  • Apply Self-Compassion: Notice the light and dark in our shared humanity. When we are suffering or you witness another’s suffering, what feelings does that bring out in you? What is one way you can extend loving kindness to yourself? Think in terms of how you would show loving kindness to a friend by listening deeply without judgment or without looking at their suffering as a problem to solve.
  • When you are suffering, or a friend is suffering, or a colleague, or an employee is suffering, do one small kind act in that moment to share your humanity and acknowledge the pain. No need to fix anything, just incremental kindnesses.
  • Welcome Appreciation: Find one aspect of the risk you are taking to soften your dark side and extend your awareness to notice the light and dark side of someone else. Appreciate our shared humanity.
