Episode 261: Leading Through The Eyes of Your Intrinsic Self

I am bringing you therapeutic resources throughout this already intense year, so you and those you lead can face reality at every turn. Because we are in unprecedented times, it is impossible to process everything all at once. Right? Look at the list.

  • The pressure and stress with running our businesses and managing our lives are still ever-present and intense.
  • We are in the middle of a forest with the COVID-19 pandemic, which means our lives and our children’s lives are far from normal.
  • Grieving the loss of over 400,000 people in the United States alone.
  • We are exhausted, and unclear of the speed vaccines will be rolled out.
  • We are recovering collectively from the attack on our United States Capitol on January 6, 2021.
  • We are adjusting to a new administration ushered in with the memorable Inauguration of President Joseph R. Bidon, Jr. and V.P. Kamala Harris last week.
  • And on and on: growing inequity, systemic racism, its effects, climate crisis, etc.

We plan to move steadily with you through it all with meaningful conversations. Listening to how others are working their way through these times validates your experiences, can spark coping ideas, and facilitate an attitude adjustment when needed and necessary for self-growth. I have reached across the pond to Oxfordshire, England, where Guest Mentor John Patching joins us. He is an experienced life coach, meditation tutor, and holistic therapist and knows how to lead through the eyes of one’s intrinsic self. DOWNLOAD

“Many therapists help provide solutions to problems and do now work at a soul level to support individuals to release trauma,” John writes. “Therapy should be as much about self-learning and discovery as it is about healing. To understand and balance our finely tuned ‘whole,’ it is first necessary to discover what it is. ‘I Am Me’ should be the core learning enabled by healing, self-acceptance, and self-love.”

John is here to express his self-described battlefield of an upbringing and give you insights into journeying toward your intrinsic self. A timely conversation to help us heal first, discover more, and then unite.

“People are like milk bottles,” John says. “If you mix fresh milk with stale milk, you get a contaminated bottle of milk.” We need to clear out the stagnant energy to create space for the positivity in fresh energy. We discuss energies in our minds, bodies, home, and office, in towns, in states, across the nation, and around the globe. Releasing stodgy energies in our minds, bodies, and around us will create space for new energy.

You might remember John from The Wallners Journey to Acceptance. I did an 8-part podcast series with Alan and Rosemary Wallner and their three children on their journey to accept their daughter, Alix, as transgender. Their journey started with Alix coming to terms with who she is. John joined our 8th conversation that aired on April 15, 2019 (See Episode Resources for the series).

Prepare yourself for a rejuvenating 10-minute Healing Garden Meditation at the end. Afterward, you can re-create your own garden whenever you feel a need to shift your perspective or go to the safe place inside.

Conscious Attentive Leadership Mentoring

After listening, challenge yourself to do the following three C.A.L.M. Activities:

  1. Take this risk: Complete the 10-Minute Healing Garden Meditation at the end of my conversation with John Patching. Write down any insights.
  2. Apply Self-Compassion: Stop to identify what you feel before you have your next conversation. Ask your inner self what the feeling is trying to let you know. Acknowledge to yourself that you got the message. I am noticing pressure to finish writing and a full belly. I can now stay focused and finish up. My body needs exercise when I am done.
  3. Welcome Appreciation: I appreciate John’s Healing Garden Meditation and knowing I can return and expand on my garden at any time. I appreciate John’s insights into energy, self-discovery, and healing today. I appreciate the energy and preparedness he brought into our conversation. I appreciate John’s devoutness in learning from each life’s lessons and his ability to pull in guides to help him. I appreciate John’s therapeutic gifts and meditation techniques.
