Episode 299: Three Digital Marketing Makeovers with Larissa Uredi

Episode Notes

This conversation is about the process of innovation in your life. What if we treated what we believe to be true, like Guest Mentor Larissa Uredi’s belief that her life is a ‘giant improv skit,’ and used that belief as a hypothesis? How would her life take shape when becoming co-owner of No-Where Consultants with founder, and lifemate, Aaron Crabb?

Doesn’t the belief that your life is a ‘giant improv skit’ give you lots of space to play with possibilities with your lifemate and business partner? You will find out.

The thought of taking our beliefs and using them as a hypothesis opens a pathway to explore and investigate possibilities. We don’t know how the belief will work out. We can investigate whether the hypothesis about a belief in serving our greater good or not. If not, we can create a new belief that will help us bridge the gap between where we have been and where we want to go.

In Larissa’s case, her hypothesis is being lived out in all areas of her life. You will learn how their 2015 talent and co-ownership merger moved them from gig-to-gig project work to building a genuine digital marketing consultancy. Their commitment to learning how to grow their business and set a foundation of respect, kindness, and boundaries is working.

You can hear how Larissa Uredi and her partner Aaron Crabb are taking handshake businesses and working side-by-side with them as partners in realizing their goals. Innovation comes by immersing themselves in client businesses.

Use the three examples below as Larissa describes how they implemented digital marketing makeovers that started out as possibilities to create more value at the moment. A construction manufacturer, an indoor air quality manufacturer, and a political thought leader bringing voting into the 21st century.

  1. SpecChem

Greg S. Maday, Chairman, and CEO and Mike Shull, President

A Kansas City-based manufacturer supplying the concrete distributor network with high-quality, industry-leading concrete construction materials. They offer a full line of liquid chemical technologies, an array of cleaning and stripping products, and a line of epoxy products. No-Where Consultants listened intently for eight months finding an online class solution to educate the national salesforce and use an APP to order products and calculate product volume at their fingertips.

  1. IAQuality

Paul Rodin, Chief Revenue Officer and William O’Connor, CFO

They manufacture indoor air quality purifiers with rapid air filtration systems. They provide innovative technologies to make the air we breathe safer and keep our businesses open. They went with No-Where Consultants to create a viable business model: a business name, website, a social acquisition strategy, ChatBox, expanded across channels, and community engagement with fire departments. They are iterating quickly.

  1. VoteSharp

Stephanie Sharp, Founder and CEO

VoteSharp is a constituent relationship tool. Stephanie is a thought leader in politics and developed a way to make voting data simple to gather and understand, especially for those wanting to get into politics. She is bringing voter data into the 21st century through a digital relationship tool built by No-Where Consultants.

Full disclosure and a tip. Halfway through listening to our conversation, I felt annoyed with my brief rant. Please know, it comes from a place of concern for newbie business owners who use social media platforms in place of a business website instead of in conjunction with their social media presence. My point is this, own what you create. A third party does not own my podcast. They do not have control over what I produce. I do. I know business owners who almost lost their businesses due to social media companies like Facebook changing their algorithms and locking out access to clients. Or have a power outage that happened recently, and businesses lost millions of dollars in revenue.

Conscious Attentive Leadership Mentoring

After listening, do the following three C.A.L.M. Activities:
  1. Take this risk or do this adventurous task: Pick a belief that you find to be true about yourself and how you lead or a belief about your life. Larissa is our example of believing her life is like a gigantic improv skit. Write it down. View it as a hypothesis. Over the next few weeks, investigate whether that belief still holds true as you create your future. Find clues placing your belief either in your past or incorporate it to create your future.
  1. Apply Self-Compassion: Each time you find a clue that supports or discounts your hypothesis, write the clue down. Acknowledge with a gentle pat on your back each time you find the next clue. Say to yourself, “way to go, investigator.” At the end of the two weeks, review your clues. Use those clues to bridge the gap between your past and the future you are creating. Give yourself a hug.
  1. Welcome Appreciation: “I appreciate Larissa’s joyful and open disposition. I appreciated her patience with me and staying fully present in our conversation. I appreciate her courage to innovate and view her life as a gigantic improv skit.”

Your Turn. Start with, “I appreciate what I heard from today’s Guest Mentor, Larissa Uredi. I appreciate this week’s adventurous task because….”

“Most of the problems in our lives and world are caused by relational dysfunction, a dysfunction in how we relate: as social groups, as individuals, to animals and the environment, and even to ourselves. Therefore, developing relational literacy—the understanding of and ability to practice healthy ways of relating—is essential for personal, social, and ecological transformation.” —Melanie Joy, psychologist, author, theorist, educator
